I don't know how much my flist knows about the situation in the Sudan, specifically Darfur. I first became aware of it through the Episcopal Church, actually, as they take an active role in doing what they can. My father has served for years, now, on our Church's committee.

A friend of mine is beginning a not-for-profit project called Write for Darfur. The basic idea is that the result of the effort will be a published compilation of short stories, essays, poems, and artwork that will be sold, all proceeds going to savedarfur.org. The works don't need to be specific to Darfur, but focusing on a related issue (struggle, racism, etc.) is encouraged. I hope you all will check it out, maybe consider contributing something, and spread the word.

Faire was wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. I'm so glad I was able to get back to it at last. And the insane voyage to be able to do Memorial Day was completely worth it. Although I do wish I could have gone to IHOP with everyone. Ah, well. It's looking like I'll at least be able to do something with Faire next year like I did this year. Fingers crossed.

Loving work, even though I spent my last two days there fucking cartridge pleating, which is evil.

...holy crap. It's been forever since I posted.

And I have remarkably little to say. I'm in the militia in Antigone and I'm a fairy in Ren Faire again. Woo! Beth is acting again!

Yeah, I got nothing. Roll hems are my natural enemy.

Is it bad that this license plate just makes me think of Trainspotting? Because it totally does. If only I knew how to do fun stuff on photoshop I'd make it be Trainspotting. And then I would laugh. A lot.

I was tagged by Lynz ...ages ago:

Write a journal entry for this meme with ten random facts about yourself. Then, pick six of your friends list and tag them - no tag backs. These rules should be included in your entry.

1. I claim to be left-handed, but am actually ambidextrous.
2. Apparently rather than being part Cherokee I am part Mulungian (ie a group from the Appalachians of... questionable descent).
3. When I was little I was convinced I was adopted because I knew my dad was.
4. Bad historical costumes make me sad inside, yet I'm debating tagging along with my boss to some SCA events. Why?
5. I keep having dreams that either my cat is up here with me or I have a new kitty living with me. My lack of pets now that I'm no longer in a dorm makes me sad.
6. Much though I love costuming, I sometimes really miss acting.
7. I'm seriously debating becoming an ex-pat. (Why, oh why is immigrating to the UK so hard?)
8. I have a nasty scar on my left forearm from accidentally burning myself with an iron in the Shop this summer. (Lack of depth perception - 2, Beth - 0)
9. My parents still don't know about my tattoo. So far so good!
10. Now that the show is up I don't know what to do with myself.

I shall tag: Oh, goodness. Do it if you feel like it, how's that?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANA! Love you, doll, and I can't wait to see you this weekend.

Now, on a vain blogger note:
...I have gotten so bad about updating this thing.

What news? Well, the hair is, indeed, both bobbed and strawberry blonde. I'm slowly moving back to my natural color, and seeing myself as a blonde again was a bit of a shock. I WILL post pictures, I promise, I just don't have any at the moment. Beyond that? Still no second job, which is fine, although I'd love to have the extra cash. I've been sick on and off for ages, which isn't fun. We're mid build for Once Upon a Matress and our student designer has completely flaked out, so at this point it's looking like Jennifer (my boss) and I will be designing the remainder of the show. Needless to say I'm smoking again. Ugh... I really must quit. For good.

Oh! In uber exciting news (at least to me) Audrey-pants took a day off from work and came to the mountain! We had dinner with Beverly and went to Play, which was amazing. It had been a really long time since either of us had gone out and we had a blast. I tipped two drag queens and we each danced with two gay boys and kinda-sorta pretended to be a couple to minimize the number of lesbians trying to dance with us. Excellent. I did, however, almost get my car towed. Note to self: Don't park at Hustler Hollywood and then go to a club. They don't take kindly to it.

I think my attention span is terminally short. I have two insane desires regarding my hair, of all things. The first is to strip out the dye and go to strawberry-blonde and the second is to cut it to bob length. Why? I HATE growing out my hair but, inevitably, every time I get it to roughly the length I want it I'm tired of it and I want to chop it off again. I must be a masochist.

But it's time for opinions on color and cut, kids. For those of you who knew me when I was in high school the longest layer of my hair is about the length it was then. I already suspect that those of you who did know me when I was blonde will vote for going back to that, but I still want color opinions from anyone who cares to give them.

It's been a horribly long time since I posted, hasn't it?

Oops.

Well, I'm all moved in and I started work about a week and a half ago, though I still don't have a second job. Blah.

I really have sadly little news. The last show of the season went very well and the build wasn't nearly as bad as we were afraid it would be, although I was trimming hats until exactly five minutes to curtain on opening night.

My big, exciting news is that I'm going back to Stirling for 11 days in March. YAY! (Spring Break is lovely. And a BIG plus to working for a school of any sort.)

I also got my lovely pressies from Lynsey AND got Firefly from my parents.

I must get another job, though...

Well, I don't really have much to say, but I felt I ought to update to let you all know that I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth. Work is continuing to go well, although we're starting on what promises to be a painfully large show. Last one, though. And then it's home for a bit and then moving back up the mountain (sheesh) and finding a second job. Damn you, Sewanee! If you weren't such cheap bastards I'd have a well paying full-time job!

I'm tired of being made to feel like being generally nice and good-tempered is its own punishment. Like everyone thinks they can walk all over you and get away with it because hey, you're a nice person and you won't get mad. I think it's time I re-instate my resolution to just be a bitch when it's necessary.

Why do I always put packing off until the last possible minute? My dad should be starting on the hour-long drive soon and I still have some books, all my desk drawers, and all my shoes, bags, and hats.

More important: Why do I feel the need to own so much crap? Much less cart it along with me everywhere I go...

You scored as Green. The Green Party believes in an America where decisions are made by the people and not by a few giant corporations. Their environmental goal is a sustainable world where nature and human society co-exist in harmony.

Actually, I'm also Old School Democrat, apparently: "Old school Democrats emphasize economic justice and opportunity. The Democratic ideal is best summarized by the Four Freedoms: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear."

I think I'm coming down with something. Something that makes me even more terminally tired than I alwayd am with the whole insomnia thing. I choose to blame the fact that I've totally sucked at life as of late on this. Seriously. Even my insanely loud alarm that usually scares me so much my adrenaline is pumping hasn't been able to wake me up lately.

Ugh.

I'm also currently living in squalor because I'm refusing to clean my room at all.

Which Boondock Saints Character Are You?

You are ... Murphy MacManus. You're impulsive, outgoing, and quick to make friends. People think of you when they want to have a good time, as you're quick to get drunk as well as make friends. Actually - the reason you might have so many friends may be the fact that you have a huge bar tab from buying everyone drinks when you're smashed. Sometimes grave and emotional, you believe, like your brother, that God has sent you on a mission to kill all of the bad people.
